Committee SkillsManagement Committees and Boards are constantly met with the challenges of keeping up to date with regulations and legislation, managing activities and projects connected with their group and carrying out the roles and responsibilities of their position.

Balancing all these aspects as well as the Strategic overview of the group, planning for the future and developing action plans to carry their mission, vision and purpose forward offers many challenges to the committee members time, expertise and knowledge.

Community Change offers their independent facilitation and training services in the following areas to build skills and develop the capacity of voluntary committees and boards:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Action Planning
  • Visioning
  • Understanding roles and responsibilities of management committees
  • Agreeing policies and procedures
  • Constitutional reviews
  • Reviews of work and planning
  • Managing Change
  • Good Governance
  • Good Practice in all aspects of their work

Whilst this covers the main areas of work under this topic Community Change provides facilitation on an individual group specific issue around which we will develop a structured workshop/s depending on the groups needs.

Some comments from groups worked with in this area:

  • This session will help our group develop “a better stronger committee?”
  • It was fun, informative and beneficial
  • Really enjoyed the communication exercise – simple, fun and effective

Community Change also provides “generic” training sessions which focuses on a general overview of any of the above topics. Groups attending can then request group specific facilitation and support in that area if they require it.

Please note: Community Change has produced a booklet called “Doing it Well” which is a basic guide to Management Committee Roles and Responsibilities. You can download the booklet from the publications section of the website or request a hard copy from Community Change.
